like the last day of school

i always got sad on the last day of school, even through college. all these friends i made, the good times had, were over. we were going to go our separate ways, at least for a few months, our lives would differ. those specific good times would end, possibly replaced by others, but never exactly the same. i feel that way when i meet a good crew on a job. this crew was great. we finished last night as midnight and rushed out to have a few drinks before last call. even went to denny's with a few after last call. they are good people, and i was lucky to meet them. i had a good time, learned a bit, laughed a lot. this makes the job worthwhile, at least in a small sense. there are a lot of things we give up or put on hold for this job. we definitely aren't paid enough to compensate, but the friendships, the connections, the relationships help alleviate that a bit. i'm not a normal man.

so, i'm sad to be going, but glad to be moving on to something else. every day is a day closer to something new, a day closer to SLC to figure more things out, see how damaging this job is, i've written loads in these 40-some-odd days. some angry, some scared, some hopeful. i'm sure i'll write more on the flights tomorrow. i'm flying through minneapolis (pseudo-ironic) and get into pittsburgh around 4:20pm.

it's about 12:45am here, i'm pretty much packed. i'm going to get a few hours sleep. i have to check-out of the hotel at 5:00AM to drive to edmonton to catch my flight.

my alarm is set for 4:26AM.

i'll talk to you all when i get where i'm going.
