walking from the south side
last night i went down to south side via the hotel shuttle. lots of bars, clubs, restaurants. no real chains which is the good thing. if you want chains you go more to station square it seems (i just got back from the hard rock there). i had a good time, talked to a few people, not too many as to break stereotype. i think i'd like this place a lot more if i had someone to barhop with, but such is life. i got a call while eating dinner from the other guy working with me at site. the customer is so far behind schedule that they don't need us to come in next week. they let us go for now. since i have vacation coming up, i doubt i'll be going back. anyways, around 1AM i decided to start on my way home. the hotel shuttle stops service at 11PM, and i couldn't find a taxi to save my life. if i did see one, they were on the other side of the street with no signs of turning around or full already with passengers. luckily, on the way down there in the shuttle, i'd asked the driver how to walk back if i happened to get stuck in this very situation, and he gave me directions i remembered. back to my "exercising while drunk" theory, i think it'd work. if i was sober, i'd've probably given up and stood in the street until someone took me back to the hotel, but i walked almost 2.5 miles back to the hotel. yup, that's my path (click for a higher-res pic), and the is EXACTLY how the driver told me to get back. i think there has to be a more straightforward way, but i really can't see one. the closer bridges are passenger only, the bridge i crossed fed directly into a tunnel that cut off some time. i don't know, but it didn't seems like 2.5 miles at all. strange.

which was further? that walk or the walk to the mad greek restaurant? Accounting drunkenness and heat and humidity, which one was tougher?
i think the mad greek was further. this walk didn't seem to phase me but maybe it's because it was pretty flat. the mad greek was by far tougher. "it's just over the next hill"
