the sun is gone, it's ramadan
well, it looks like the month of ramadan is starting tonight or tomorrow night. from what i understand, ramadan is a month-long muslim holiday where the people fast during the day... no smoking, drinking, or eating, and then pray and eat copious amounts of food at night. so that means, no one wants to work in the day because it's hot, and they can't drink or eat, and they are tired all day from catching up at night. i saw a little bit of this in trinidad when i worked there, but i think it will be far slower here. our construction contractor is made up of about 90% muslims. things are going to slow down significantly, and yet the customer is still pushing for an insane schedule.
that being said, i have to stock up on beer. i'm not sure if the store we buy from sells during ramadan, so i've bought 96 20-oz cans. that would be three a day for a month. i don't think that's enough. not with what's going on. i might have to get a few more cases tonight.
------
didn't get a few more cases. today was... completely forgettable. nothing exciting happened. nothing good, nothing bad. i wrote some on the way home from work. came home, got pizza, watched some TV and a good documentary about the mathematician, paul erdos (yeah, i know, maybe that's why this happened, hah), and now jules is reaidng and i'm listening to egyptian radio.
i transcribed my most recent poetry/streams at lunch. i was going to post one of them here, but i can't find a really good one. sorry, if i get to the backpack with the good stuff, i'll hook you up then.

Let's see...New Orleans is preparing for Hurricane Gustav, and you are preparing for Ramadan. You could qualify for head of FEMA. Get that beer in and sacked to the ceiling and hunker down! heehee
XXXOOO
Can't help but to ask: are you on the couch?
If you don'tlike this comment/question - I'll understand if you delete it. Beers are good, but how about a run or a bike ride instead once in a while.
on the couch? um, i'm GUESSING what i know what you are talking about, and, no i'm not, though it's been suggested recently before the tumult was even evident. i can do better than they can, i just need medication.
i don't need to delete comments, no worries there. i'm actually going out on a bike ride right now, had to leave work early for the next post.
No, I didn't mean that. I mean when "you know who" comes home, do you have to sleep on the couch? (or doghouse - but I don't think you have one there).
gotya, i always miss things like that. no WAY would i be on the couch. we moved her stuff into the guest bedroom.
Awesome, good job!
